Nepal is the base-camp for Enlightened Globetrekker humanitarian projects.
Ancient Buddhist structures, candlelight meditation with butter lamps in monasteries, meetings with monks, trekking the Himalayas, local homestays, meeting with village Shamans, leaders, and families, jungle treks, canoeing sacred rivers, visiting a village school, Everest flight, shopping in Kathmandu, yoga outside in the misty morning Himalayan air, sleeping in monasteries, amazing friendships, cycling through remote villages, humanitarian opportunities, beautiful nature, incredible smiling faces. Take a soulful journey inside and out.
Join us as we step back in time and enter this majestic Himalayan world.
Day 1: Depart from international departure cities (departing either day or evening of 30th, or on the 1st)
Day 2: Arrival in Kathmandu, we will meet you at the airport and bring you to hotel. Rest and recover from a long journey to Nepal (jet lag, day time difference from travel). Dinner at hotel. Evening yoga/candlelight meditation for all those who have arrived by then.
Day 3: Welcome breakfast. Yoga. Opening circle. Walking tour of Kathmandu: Thamel to Ason to Durbar Square, home of Hindu’s living goddess, Kumari. Drive to the famous Monkey temple (Shyambhunath temple). See the monkeys! Enjoy the spectacular Kathmandu city skyline view from the top of Shyambhunath. Drive back to hotel and have dinner at an authentic Nepali restaurant with a culture show. Candlelight meditation.
Day 4: Yoga. Breakfast. Drive to Namobuddha, visit monasteries, stay overnight at Buddhist monastery and have meals there. Meet with the head monk (Lama) and have Interaction with the monastery monks. Candlelight meditation in the monastery. (Very powerful!!)
Day 5: Yoga. Breakfast. Trek to Khopasi and Panauti, then drive to Kakani to our hotel, Hotel Himalayan View. Visit a local fish farm in the afternoon and have a meeting on local agroforestry projects. Dinner at hotel. Candlelight meditation.
Day 6: Yoga. Breakfast. Day in Kakani, house visit and tea with village leader and Shaman, Demai in his sustainable earth bag home. Learn about village politics, farming, lifestyle, and his role as a traditional Shaman. Visit the local village school, meeting with school officials and interaction with students. Team members can even try teaching a portion of a class if they would like. Dinner at hotel. Candlelight meditation.
Day 7: Yoga. Breakfast. Drive to Bandipur and explore Bandipur, shopping, etc. Overnight at Bandipur Mountain Resort. Dinner at café or hotel. Candlelight meditation.
Day 8: Yoga. Breakfast. Drive to Pokhara, check into hotel. Afternoon boat ride across the Phewa Lake. Trek to Peace Stupa. Drive from trek summit to Lakeside. Dinner at Lakeside. Candlelight meditation.
Day 9: Yoga. Breakfast. Drive to Begnas Lake Resort. Free time: swimming, trekking, optional massages, etc. Dinner at resort. Candlelight meditation.
Day 10: Yoga. Breakfast. Drive to Chitwan National park, stay at individual home stays. Meet and eat dinner with the Nepali families. Evening time with your host family.
Day 11: Yoga. Breakfast. Canoe ride on Rapti. 3 hour jungle trek. Sauraha Centre for lunch by the river. Free time to explore the local area, people and environment, evening Tharu Culture show, dinner at home stays or in the Centre. Evening time with your host family.
Day 12: Yoga. Breakfast. Cycling tour through local villages. Drive to Kathmandu hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu. Dinner at restaurant in downtown Thamel district. Night out together in downtown Kathmandu!!
Day 13: Yoga. Breakfast. Half day tour to Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath stupa. Free time in Kathmandu. Shopping, hanging out in cafes, visiting ancient sites. Dinner at hotel. Closing circle. Candlelight meditation.
Day 14: Breakfast. Optional adventure extra: Mountain flight in the morning to see the panorama of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest. Drive to airport for outbound flight or stay overnight in Thamel (at own expense but we can arrange).
Day 15: If you have not departed on the 14th, this extra day is at your own expense. All remaining departures for airport (we schedule your shuttle) to head home to international cities.
Please Note: If any team members on this retreat would like to extend their stay in Nepal after the retreat ends to do humanitarian work in our village, Enlightened Globetrekker will place you in a homestay or in our village volunteer house for anywhere from 1 week up to 6 months. Positions needed in the village that we sponsor are: teaching English, helping in the fields, helping to reconstruct homes lost in the earthquakes, and working on sustainable village agro-forestry and earth bag home building projects.
